  African Safari Hunt was the first hunting title to offer exotic big game hunting for the PC. Endorsed by weapons/gear manufacturer Browning, African Safari Hunt allows plays to hunt a variety of African big game: Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Lion, Crocs, Wildebeest and Gazelle. However, it's more than just a straight hunting sim as players are hired by a museum owner to purchase various African artifacts (and hunt down trophy animals) for the museum's African display. The museum then buys your artifacts and trophies, allowing you to finance return trips to Africa (and make more money). Players must also obey local hunting regulations- otherwise be prepared to spend time in the game warden's jail! While all of this sounds pretty good- it's overwhelmed by the game's rather bland and cartoony graphics.

African Safari Hunt eerily mirrors The Hunting Game (another Oquirrh product) both in graphics and gameplay. Cartoon characters, animals and scenes are mixed with still background shots of Africa. While some animals will strike back if wounded there really isn't much new here- it's pretty much a first generation hunting game set in Africa. If you are looking for great graphics and innovative gameplay, African Safari is not what you want. The cartoony elements may be appealing to kids however.

After playing African Safari I'm still waiting for a decent exotic big game hunting sim. If you loved The Hunting Game and other hunting products by Oquirrh then you'll love this.
