VIPER RACING
Developed by: Sierra
Sports (1998)
Genre: Racing game
System Requirements: Windows
95/98, P 133+, CD ROM, 55 MB HDD Space, 32 MB RAM, Mouse or game controller.
OVERVIEW: Ever wondered what it would be like to climb behind the wheel of a ultra-expensive domestic sports car? Yeah, pretty easy question to answer- and with Viper Racing you get the chance! Viper Racing puts you at the wheel of the Dodge Viper, possibly the hottest U.S. sports car ever developed (sorry IROC and 'Vette fans).
Viper Racing kind of reminds me of Need for Speed- except that it's in one sense more focused and limited. Your choices are as follows: drive a Viper around eight tracks (either in a single race or career mode) or play with the nifty paintshop program and design a custome Viper paint job. That's pretty much it, outside of multiplayer. While this bodes poorly for most games- read on.
Viper Racing doesn't claim to be anything than what it is: a Dodge Viper racing sim. And if looked at in that light, it's a great game. The graphics and sounds are excellent. The tracks vary in difficulty and the physics are outstanding. Talk about realistic physics and damage- it's great! Viper Racing is indeed a keeper for racing sim fans even with it's limitations.
While it's not NASCAR, CART of Formula One Viper Racing is one of the best simulations in regards to realistic physics and damage I've ever played. While not an award winner, it's a good game for what it is.
